MedHub’s eValue Online Platform Anchoring Study to Determine Value of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Rotations

Year-long study co-sponsored by AACP, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy

MedHub, a provider of the most widely used, robust health care education management solutions for universities and teaching hospitals, today announced that its eValue platform was chosen to facilitate a year-long study to determine the value of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations. The study, “From Learner to Practitioner: A Comprehensive Exploration of the Value and Purpose of the Student Intervention Documentation Process,” is being conducted as a joint effort of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), University at Buffalo, The State University of New York School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy.

“This multi-school educational research study is important because as educators, we understand the impact of our students’ training and learning at a site, but others do not always recognize that value,” said AACP Associate Executive Vice President Ruth E. Nemire, Pharm. D., Ed. D., “We believe that the data collected during this study can be used by pharmacist and hospital administrators to document the value of training health professions students to an organization.”

In addition to tracking patient interventions, the eValue platform will be used to:

  • assess student perception of their impact on direct patient care by being involved in a routine intervention documentation process; and
  • assess preceptor perception of having their students track patient interventions and its overall impact on patient care at their site.

In addition to helping the study authors measure student contributions in both inpatient and outpatient practice settings, institutions that participate in the study will receive the following benefits:

  • Free access to the eValue PxDx Case Logger component for the duration of the study for APPE students.
  • Aggregate report of their students’ data with information regarding:
    • number of interventions
    • type of interventions
    • estimated cost savings for interventions
    • preceptor and student reflections on intervention documentation process
  • Opportunity for students to experience intervention-logging in a practice setting, further preparing them for practice.

The eValue platform is used by more than 80 pharmacy schools worldwide for experiential education, assessment, and accreditation management.
